Project Activities & Work Packages

The SmartPhone Vision project (“Empowering Vision: AI and Haptic Technologies for People with Visual Impairments” — Grant Agreement: 2026-1-EL01-KA210-ADU-000468609) is implemented over a 24-month period (01/09/2026 – 31/08/2028) and is structured into four core Activities:

Activity 1: Technical Adaptation & Multi-modal Codesign

Overview:

This activity focuses on developing, refining, and optimizing the project’s AI architecture and multi-modal user interaction framework. Key actions include:

  • Customizing and integrating advanced real-time computer vision models tailored for mobile environments.
  • Formulating obstacle detection and spatial distance estimation algorithms to support autonomous navigation.
  • Designing the Standardized Haptic Feedback Vibration Code, translating visual inputs captured by the smartphone camera into intuitive vibration patterns and auditory cues.
  • Hosting a transnational technical co-design workshop with end-user representatives to align technological features with authentic accessibility needs.

Activity 2: Pilot Implementation & Multi-modal Educational Toolkit

Overview:

As the core operational engine of the initiative, this work package transforms software research into practical training and community deployment:

  • Educational Toolkit Development (Haptic-Vision Toolkit): Producing structured learning resources, user guides, and hands-on exercises in accessible formats (Digital, Audio, and Braille).
  • Train-the-Trainers Workshops: Equipping instructors, special educators, and disability professionals with pedagogical and technical proficiency in using the toolkit.
  • End-User Pilot Trainings: Conducting practical training workshops for over 100 visually impaired adults in Greece and Romania.
  • Implementing User-Centered Design (UCD) evaluation, gathering comparative feedback, and conducting iterative usability refinements.

Activity 3: Dissemination, Open-Source Exploitation, and Project Sustainability

Overview:

Dedicated to maximizing project reach, ensuring wide adoption, and securing long-term open access for the wider community:

  • Open Educational Resources (OER) & Open-Source Code: Publishing the complete software repository on GitHub under permissive open-source licensing to ensure global accessibility and technical reuse.
  • Erasmus+ Project Results Platform: Uploading and cataloging all final intellectual assets and outputs to the official European Commission platform.
  • Multiplier Events & Final Conferences: Organizing high-impact dissemination conferences in Thessaloniki and Bucharest to present project achievements to accessibility experts, policy stakeholders, and disability advocacy networks.

Activity 4: Project Coordination, Scientific, and Financial Management

Overview:

Ensures seamless administrative, financial, and scientific oversight across all implementation phases:

  • Direct management, compliance supervision, and official reporting to the Greek National Agency (IKY).
  • Facilitation of Transnational Project Meetings (TPMs) and regular monthly coordination teleconferences.
  • Monitoring implementation via the Quality Assurance Plan and the Risk Management Register to ensure full adherence to Erasmus+ standards and deadlines.
